London funksters Brand New Heavies are about to drop a brand new album – their first in six years – and plan to support the release with an exclusive live date at London’s Koko on Friday, May 10.
Original Heavyweights Jan Kincaid, Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy are still at the core of the band, of course, and the first single from their new CD, Forward!, entitled Sunlight, once again features vocalist N’Dea Davenport. It’ll be on the streets April 15, while the album arrives on April 29. The latter introduces us to new singer Dawn Joseph.
Says Jan:
“There is something unique about the Brand New Heavies that has to do with the make-up and, at the same time, is greater than that. We’ve been together so long that we have the grounding and the history. We started as a live band and did it hard, just playing clubs, pubs, anywhere that would have us, for a long time before we got a record deal. We weren’t just centred around a record, and that’s the way it should be.”
Gonna be another Heavy love affair, for sure. Tickets for the show available from all the usual outlets.
