Man Friday

Writer, broadcaster and regular on BBC London, Robert Elms has launched Soul Fridays at Boisdale, Canary Wharf.
Boisdale is the area’s only live music venue and now each Friday will feature some of the UK’s best soul singers and bands playing live, introduced by Mr Elms.
Wayne Hernandez and Louise Claire Marshall from Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra have already been lined up to gig and there are tribute nights planned to Aretha, Otis, Kool and The Gang, Stevie Wonder and James Brown, as well as appearances by such as Yolanda BrownThe Soul Jets, The Soul Immigrants and The Leo Green Experience.
Elms’ mate, Norman Jay, is well happy about it. He says of young master Robert: “To me he’s the only person who reflects the London I come from, the London I miss, the London I reminisce about. He is white London, he is black London… we’re both men of the world.” Indeed.
Boisdale is a restaurant, bar and live music venue serving traditional Scottish cuisine. The venue also features the largest whisky bar in Europe.
