This month sees the launch of the inaugural London Saxophone Festival, a celebration of all things sax, taking place at a range of venues and event spaces across the capital.
The series of concerts will include performances from GRAMMY winning artists Bob Reynoldsof the widely celebrated jazz and funk collective Snarky Puppy, Casey Benjaminof the The Robert Glasper Experiment, MOBO award winning saxophonist YolanDa Brown, who will be performing her fusion of reggae, jazz and soul, and BBC Young Musician Of The Year Alexander Bonewho will also be bringing his outstanding ability to the stage.
In addition to these live performances taking place, the London Saxophone Festival will incorporate a wide range of workshops and educational events for families, aimed at providing knowledge, insights and inspiration to aspiring musicians or anyone who is curious to find out more about the saxophone.
A free ‘Sax Village and Family Day’ will be open to the public on the Sat, May 26 between 11am and 8.30pm in the foyer of the Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square.Newcomers will be able to assemble and play the saxophone for the first time and be shown techniques, while experienced players will be able to converse and consult with leading musicians and industry figures.The day will feature concerts for babies and children, as well as saxophones to hire or to purchase at special Sax Fest rates.
Boutique cinema chain Everyman will also be providing special screenings of movies that feature quintessential saxophone scores in their soundtracks at several of their sites as part of the festival, with music in the bar of each venue ahead of the films.
Events at the London Saxophone Festival span across the whole of London and take place at some of its most famous concert halls and vibrant areas, with headline shows and events taking place at the aforesaid Cadogan Hall, Camden Town’s Jazz Café, Dalston’s Vortex Jazz Club and other venues London-wide.
