The 2019 Jazz FM vocalist of the year Cherise set to release her first single today, Friday, November 29, ahead of her debut EP Paradise, due for release in January 2020.
At just 24, Cherise has had an interesting career so far, having performed at the Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C. and The Proms here in London, as well as a number of UK festivals. As we mentioned, she also won vocalist of the year at the Jazz FM awards 2019, and performed at the Jazz Voice opening gala last week for London Jazz Fest alongside Cécile McLorin Salvant and Corinne Bailey Rae. She will feature on the upcoming Nubiyan Twist single too.
All four tracks on Paradise were composed and arranged by Cherise, offering an insight into her classical upbringing playing viola and flute, and her love of soul and jazz which stems from listening to her mother’s favourite artists such as Marvin Gaye, Toni Baxton, Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
