Boyz II Men, the best-selling R&B group of all time, are back with a brand new album and trio of live UK dates. Collide, the trio’s 13th album, is due for release on December 1.
Nate Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanya Morris, have in their time earned numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Awards, and a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Coupled with the fact that they have sold an astounding 60 million albums worldwide, the band hopes to continue to develop with the advent of the new album.
Speaking about the new record, Shawn Stockman says:
“Collide highlights a broader side of our creativity, going further into doing what feels right for us at this moment in our lives. It’s an album with the type of sound that works in any era: big drums, dramatic, lush piano; it’s expansive and it grooves.”
The single, Losing Sleep, features human beat boxing mixed with a drum loop, while the album’s title track, is described by Wanya Morris as the ultimate goodbye song: “It asks the question, who would you want to be with if the world ended tomorrow? That feeling of despair and peace at the same time – all of love’s emotions in one song.”
It’s a diverse collection of sounds, styles and genres – but it evolved very organically for the guys:
“I think music changes the same way people naturally change,” says Stockman. “Our music has grown with us and our approach to recording has become simpler. We weren’t in the studio toiling over nine-part harmony arrangements just because we can… it’s about what makes the songs sound their best.”
The album Collide and single Losing Sleep are both released on Absolute Recordings on Dec 1.
To tie in with the album, Boyz II Men play the following UK tour dates in December:
04/12/14 – O2 Academy, Birmingham
05/12/14 – IndigO2, London
07/12/14 – Albert Hall, Manchester
