What’s being termed their final album, The Last Word is coming in April from the legendary Philly soulsters The O’Jays.
Eddie Levert, Walter Williams and Eric Grant have already dropped the first single online: I Got You is a trademark O’Jays slice of PIR-style soul music, on this occasion produced by Betty Wright as well as Steve Greenberg, Mike Mangini and Sam Hollander
The album will be available from April 19 and is currently available for pre-order.
I Got You offers up a message of love during a time that often feels filled with hate. “Even if the sky begins to fall and even if they try to build that wall, even if the bombs go off and the world is set on fire, I got your back… I can imagine a future where there is no hate. Forget what they say. You have always been great. I’ll see you on the battle line, I got your back and I know you got mine,”sing The O’Jays.
“In true O’Jays inspirational fashion, I Got Youoffers positivity and solidarity as a means of getting us through this difficult historical moment,” said S-Curve Records President, Greenberg.
The O’Jayswere inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005. They received BET’s Life Time Achievement Award in 2009. In 2013, they were inducted into The Official R&B Music Hall of Fame.
